Character Information
Character Name: Roll Light
Canon: Mega Man [Powered Up; Roll Playthrough]
Canon Point: Midgame
Is your character Dead, Undead or Alive: Alive
History: IN THE YEAR 20XX, there was a man. A man named Doctor Light. This man pioneered modern robotics, with the aid of his coworker, Doctor Wily. And they begun work on a robot that could think for itself, a truly aware machine-man- though formally named Proto Man, he WAS nicknamed Blues after a favored genre of music. In addition, he held built-in weapons for combat- and these were perhaps one of the primary reasons that Proto Man ran away after not too long, unsure of his place and meaning in the world. Though disheartened, Light didn't stop; his next builds were a brother and sister set. Rock [aka Mega] and Roll.

They were by no means the last, but they were his constant companions. But as he and Wily continued to build more 'brothers' for the family, nobody expected Wily to be harboring dark secrets. And one day, as Roll was walking down the street, he, well-

He essentially decided he was going to take over the world with the aid of the 8 newest robots he and Light had built.

Roll managed to get her way back to the laboratory in time to help pick Dr. Light off his feet, and then promise to single-handedly stop Dr. Wily.

For a robot originally built for housekeeping, this wasn't exactly a small task; especially with Wily having taken most of the nonhuman robots and repurposed them with weapons of their own. But there's something to be said for sheer stubbornness and a strong sense of what's right and wrong, as well as the drive to do something about that.

She's managed to halt four out of eight of the newly-dubbed 'Robot Masters' at this point.

Personality: Roll was designed with a few key traits; to be a housekeeping robot, to serve as a 'sister' robot to her 'brother' Rock, and to affect the attitude of a small child as to be nonthreatening to others who might find her status as a humanoid robot-android disconcerting.

And, well, two and a half out of three ain't bad. Because while she very much embraces her role as a housekeeper (she takes it as a point of pride, really, how neat a place she can keep) and very much is close to her brother...while she looks like a harmless little girl?

Spend an hour with Roll and you'll learn that while she's a sweet young thing, she's got quite a bit of spunk to her that can throw the whole 'nonthreatening' thing right out the window.

Roll very much has a mind of her own, within her programming; about the only thing she can't outright do is break the Three Laws of Robotics wily-nily. There are directives within her that serve as a guide, but if Roll truly wanted to she could break said directives and do whatever she pleased. And if she was put under enough stress and was able to justify it, she could even break the Three Laws. Quite frankly, though, Roll at her current point has no reason, will, or any interest in going against her programming; for all she cares, it's not even her programming that guides her. It's what she feels like doing, what she likes to do, and what she believes in.

Let's discuss those further.

As mentioned, Roll enjoys her position as housekeeper; making sure Doctor Light takes care of himself just as much as he takes care of she and her brother. She'll mother anyone if given the chance, really; if they need help and it's something she can do, she'll give it gladly. She's the sort of girl who would easily be found in the Girl Scouts, or otherwise helping around the community if given the chance; while Powered Up is a reboot of the original canon, it's easily possible that she still has her canon dream of eventually opening up a hospital when she 'grows up' so that she can help people even more.

And yes, Roll does believe in growing up. She's very much aware she's a robot and won't exactly grow as humans do, but robots can get upgraded; maybe there'll be a time when the world will let her pursue such a dream, such as Dr. Light no longer needing her as a housekeeper. (She's immensely sad at the idea of him dying, but as anyone would a loved one, tries not to think about it too much.) And she's nowhere near knowledgeable enough yet to be a doctor or nurse; she's a long way to go. So when it boils down to it, 'growing up' is just a matter of 'getting more experience' for her. Her personality could certainly mature; Roll hasn't had the normal human growth cycle of infant to toddler to small child to preteen to teen so on and so forth, but there's still the room in her for development. Given time, it's easily possible that she could have the whole 'wisdom beyond her years' sort of thing...

...but still act like a small child. Again- programming guides that she has no reason or will to go against. It's not so much that it 'rewards' her for following said programming, nor makes it obscenely difficult to go against. It's just there. A skillset and base personality that can be developed and refined. Which is one of the reasons she was able to take to defending Dr. Light's lab, and go after Wily's robots. Swatting hostile robots with a broom aren't exactly part of her original programming, but she's taken to it because she believes it's what she needs to do.

Quite frankly, there are a lot of things that need to get done, things she can do- but going after Wily was, at the moment, the most important. (We have no idea where Mega is during her story arc, but presumably he's being upgraded in to a full fighter robot?) So she didn't hesitate to pick up her weapon of choice and get going to find her brothers and scold them silly. Or beat them silly until they gave up.

Not that she particularly likes beating them, you know? But it's a matter of not hesitating to do things! Besides, her brothers could take it. And she believes in other things, too, such as being nice to others, and she's got no qualms speaking her mind about the issues. Loudly. And forcefully. Possibly shouting if necessary.

Roll can be a brat, but really it's just a matter of exuberance. When she feels something, she feels it strongly. When she does something, she does it with all her heart. When she says she's going to take care of things? You can darn well bet she'll do so or fall (metaphorically speaking) trying. She has a very strong sense of right and wrong, and part of that involves following up on your word.

The rest of it is similar to a child's sense of the world; black and white, good and evil, things are simple and there's no reason to complicate things. She can be quite a bit naive in this regard, believing in the best of everyone until proven otherwise (in which case, ow before she goes to beat you on the head with her broom for tricking her you meanie!!!111one), but like so many other things?

Roll wouldn't have herself any other way.

Items on your character at canon point: Herself and her broom. Nothing too special. (To be fair, the broom is as metal as she is and able to take as much a beating as it can dish out.)

Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses: While she's a robot designed to look and act like a preteen little girl, she's still a robot. Roll is notably more durable than a human being, able to accomplish feats above an Olympic athlete when it comes to endurance, strength, and the fact she doesn't even need to breathe. And while she's by no means a combat model, she's able to take and shrug off hits on par with armored soldiers. Not to say she can't get hurt, but a simple punch is just as likely to hurt the opposing party as much as hurt. And to be fair, even if she could shrug it off she would still feel it; her sense of touch is by no means slackened. And the fact that she's a little girl, well...

Hitting her will certainly get an 'OW', even if she isn't really hurt.

Let's face it; Roll got hit plenty of times during her trek to the Robot Masters, and probably needed repairs after every go. Her skin can be torn, and she can bleed (oil and other robotic fluids, but still). She's more durable than a little girl...far more capable...and her determination can get her past pain...but it won't stop her from acting as she's been designed to. A spunky child who, while mostly level-headed, and and will still act as a childish brat.

She's a robot designed to look like a little girl...and at heart, that's what she is. A little girl. A little girl who can swing a broom like a bo staff and who's able to jump a good few feet in the air and who can cook up a storm all by herself and who loves cleaning and keeping neat and taking care of others, one who can be bossy and outright demanding but will always be there with a bowl of chicken soup if you're sick...

Roll doesn't like to fight. She can if she has to. But it's also possible for her to get outright scared, or unwilling to hurt anyone more. And this? This combined with her youthful nativity? Can get her in outright trouble.

These places really were in utter disarray, weren't they? Roll frowned as she looked around the hovel, unconsciously rubbing her upper arm as a chill wafted through. Dust everywhere, to say nothing of some dark stains she couldn't recognize...

They'd clean, wouldn't they? Or she'd find some paint. Anything to cheer this place up- it was sorely in need. Shaking her head, she moved towards once of the boarded-up windows and gave it a quick thrust with the end of the broom. It didn't give at first, so she tightened her grip, gritted her jaw, and gave it a harder shove.

This time, it broke open outwards- and the breeze that came in through was enough to set her in to a sneezing fit as the dust was blown about. But at least it didn't take long to recover; sniffling, she wiped her nose on the inside of her arm for lack of having anything else. Note to self- find a handkerchief!

After cleaning everything else, that was. At least she had some light in here, now! Roll turned around, nodding her approval only to freeze when she saw exactly what color that stain was.

"...EW!"

Dark and red and Roll recognized that sort of color! She gripped her broom tightly again, bringing it up as her eyes widened in horror. That was blood...! She hadn't really taken it in at first but the fact that there was a huge bloodstain on the floor-!

Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to move in here. Her hands flexed and wrung around the broomshaft, worry twisting with repulsion twisting with everything else.

Well, it...it looked old at least. Whoever it was...

Well, based on what she'd heard...

"If it already belongs to someone," she reasoned quietly, though she doubted so because of all the dust and signs of ill-use, "then...then I'll just clean it up for them!"

Yes! That made sense! Set with her new decision, Roll nodded and let out a heavy breath, making herself relax.

Right. Now...where could she find some paint...
