MAGICAL PERSON MEME

| Killer transformations. Adorable costumes. Fighting evil with the power of Truth and Love - Magical Girls sure have a life, don't they? Well, now YOU, too, can be one*, just by mixing and matching these prompts! *Subjects need not be Girls unless they want to be. The skirts, however, are non-negotiable. A) AU - You've always been one. Or, at least, they're native to where you live. B) CROSSOVER - So you've never heard of them before (except in them animes) but now they're here. This Sure Is A Thing That's Happening To You Now. 1) NEW POWERS - A tiny little critter has come up to you and said you're the only one who can save the city! Turns out they can grant you magical powers, no contract required! There just, uh, may be a learning curve. And are you used to the outfit yet? Lucky, there may be a friend here with you in the same boat - or maybe they're the more experienced one, here to help you out! 2) MONSTER ENCOUNTER - Monsters are invading the hearts of men! Only you can beat them out with your special powers- just beware of property damage! At least there may or may not be another Magical Person nearby, ready to help (or hinder)! 3) SECRET IDENTITIES - Juggling a 'normal' life alongside this whole Magical Person business can be rough. Especially when you need to transform at an inconvenient time, like in a very public place...or, worse, a date! Are you managing to keep this a secret from those closest to you, or perhaps they've known all along? 4) 5) THE FINAL SHOWDOWN - It's all led up to this. You're finally facing the Big Bad- is it someone you know? Someone who's been in the shadows all along? Are you fighting together with your friends - or are you fighting a friend, someone who's lied to you all this time? |

screw it let's find out
Some years ago she'd had an encounter with the M.I.N.D. Machine. It had turned her into something else, a girl made of pure thought-energy, and sent her into another time. A better time, a time without people, and she had learned to pour herself into the bodies of other creatures and use them as her own, and to affect their minds and read their emotions. In exploring her new limits and possibilities she had let many human things slide away, and she'd been happy.
Well, okay, she'd missed things like chocolate and music and books, and the sense of someone seeing and reacting to her art, and maybe, sometimes, company. But it had been a shock to stumble across the way back, to hover invisibly over her tiny human body and then to slide back into it and back into a noisy, petty world that thought nothing had happened. But she was still M.I.N.D.-changed, still able to use what she'd learned, and it hadn't taken long to discover the world here that she'd never known, and to decide to join it.
She's not the same kind of magical girl as a lot of the others. Her outfit is homemade, stitched out of Goodwill clothes that were close enough, she doesn't really transform, but she can project the idea that she does, make people see the lightshow and hear the music, make herself unrecognizable. The goggles she wears to protect her eyes, she can make them look themselves like eyes.
Janine had known Buford, of course. Intimidated some of her bullies so they did nothing when Janine was in sight. Spent some of her rare smiles on the girl, even, because kids could be so cruel to anyone who didn't fit, and being white was certainly no guarantee of fitting in. Since returning she's come into her own, but Janine's eye is sharp. Even before her M.I.N.D. gifts she'd been good at looking past the fronts people put up.]
You have a history with him, don't you? Are you going to be objective enough?
scream yes
That history has only strengthened my resolve to bring his reign of terror to an end!
[It's personal. It's so, so personal. Buford had not wanted to admit to her history, had tried to keep it a secret, but the whole mess had come out: how he had been the source of her original powers, how they had been partners, and how her mascot had tricked and used and betrayed her.
There totally weren't panels where she held the hand he had shaken delicately to her chest, eyes shut, as flower petals blew by in the background and ethereal thought bubbles posed the question of whether it was wrong for a girl to love a triangle. There was nothing even like that. NOT EVEN CLOSE.ANYWAY, Buford is going to be the one to take her ex-mascot down. She has new powers, thanks to the beautiful, courageous, kind Oracle, and she's been told it's her destiny. At least, she assumes that's what what the Oracle said means.]
Re: scream yes
Buffie. Don't you know I can smell lies? [She can't, she's just a very precise observer of people.] He'll pretend at some point that he's changed and learned his lesson and your resolve will crumble.
Denial's just going to get us killed, and then if you live anyway you'll go into a tedious sulk about how it was all your fault and if I live I won't want to.
no subject
Denial?
[Oh girl. Oh girl, no.]
You think I'm in denial?
[For someone who likes to present herself as entirely rational and unemotional, there is a whole lot of indignant fury on Buford's face.]
I know he won't change! I know that better than any of you! I spent three years trapped between dimensions because of him! Do you really think I'm going to forget what he put me through?!
no subject
Girl, do you think I've never heard that before? You're human. He's got hooks in you. You're going to do something stupid and I'm going to have to do something stupider to pull you out.
There needs to be a plan that's not just rushing in, and I need to hear it.
